Understanding Treatment Plan and Invoice Display Options

This quick guide demonstrates the different patient-facing display options for treatment plans and invoices based whether or not they want the insurance discount, or PPO write-off, to display.

There are different options that can be chosen for the treatment plan and invoice display. This means the provider must be in-network with the patient's insurance, and have the different settings enabled in the applicable areas of Curve Hero for their preferred display.

Steps

Section 1 - Treatment Plan Display without Insurance Discount

1. A treatment plan can be printed, emailed, or presented electronically to a patient on an in-office device. It can be set up to display the contracted patient estimate, the insurance estimate, and the total owed by procedure, visit, and treatment plan.

The display is as follows:

1. The Patient column displays the amount assigned to the patient. This displays the total of the procedure(s). This is the amount that the patient is expected to pay for each of the listed procedures.


2. The Visit Subtotal displays the amount the patient is expected to pay if all the procedures that are grouped are completed in the visit.


3. The Patient estimate in the Treatment Plan Totals box displays the full patient portion for all of the visits within the presented treatment plan.

Section 2 - Treatment Plan Display with Insurance Discount

1. The other alternative is to present the treatment plan to include the estimate display of the insurance discount amount.

The display is as follows:

1. The estimated Patient portion by procedure.


2. The Visit Subtotal displays the estimated amount the patient should expect to pay if the procedures that are currently listed are completed in that visit.


3. The Insurance Discount Estimate with the patient's insurance plan name. This amount displays in parentheses.


4. The estimated Patient total for all the visits displayed on the treatment plan.

Section 3 - Invoice Display without the Insurance Discount Display

1. An invoice can be printed or emailed to the responsible party as a receipt. It can also be given to them prior to payoff to show the completed procedures, and estimated insurance and patient amounts. 

Note: This display is set up in conjunction with the treatment plans that do not show insurance or PPO write-off amounts. To reference how to do this, click Setting Up Estimates to Not Show PPO Write-offs.

The display is as follows: 

1. The Charge per procedure is the fee. This is the sum of the insurance portion and the patient portion.


2. The PPO Write-off Estimate shows it is Not applied yet. This amount displays in the Credits column. 


3. The Charges box at the bottom displays the invoice total, which includes the total fee of all the procedures included on the invoice. This amount does not include the insurance discount.


4. The Insurance Portion box displays the estimated amount the insurance is expected to pay. 


5. The Credits box displays any payments and adjustments that have been posted to the procedures on the invoice.


6. The Your Portion box displays the total amount the patient owes for the invoiced procedures. 

2. Insurance Portion has an asterisk beside it, and the Your Patient has three asterisks. These correspond to notes at the bottom of the invoice that disclose the portions are estimates. 

3. The invoice can be set up to display the fees without the PPO Write-off estimate row. This set up is demonstrated in the guide Enabling PPO Support.

Section 4 - Invoice Display with the Insurance Discount

1. An invoice can be set to display the insurance discount amount. 

Note: This display is enabled with the same setup as the treatment plans to show the insurance discount amounts. Click Setting Up Estimates to Display the Insurance Discount to reference how this is done.

The display is as follows: 

1. The Charges by procedure display the full fee, which includes the insurance estimate, the patient estimate, and the insurance discount amount. 


2. The PPO Write-off Estimate total displays the contracted adjustment amount by procedure, and indicates it is Not applied yet. The amount displays in the Credits column.


3. The Charges box displays the full total of all the procedures on the invoice. This amount includes the total insurance estimate, the total patient estimate, and the total insurance discount. 


4. The Insurance Portion displays the total amount the insurance is estimated to pay. This box has an asterisks that corresponds to a note at the bottom of the invoice to indicate it is an estimate.


5. The Credits box displays the total of the insurance discount or PPO Write-off Estimate amount. This box will also include any payment amounts made toward the invoice. 


6. The Your Portion box displays the amount the patient owes. This box has three asterisks to indicate it is subject to change according to insurance processing and assignment of fees.
