How to use a tool from TWAIN Working Group to test a TWAIN device.
⚠️ Important Note on TWAIN Compliance
While most scanners are TWAIN compliant, some models (like ScanSnap) do not support TWAIN. To verify if your device supports TWAIN, use TWACKER—a tool developed by the TWAIN Working Group for testing data sources.
Note: TWACKER is a Windows-only utility. For Mac devices, please contact your scanner vendor for compatibility details.
Download TWACKER
Download TWACKER (32-bit) or Alternative Mirror.
Troubleshooting Tip: If your device is not detected, a 64-bit version is available here. However, most scanners use 32-bit drivers, so the 64-bit version should only be used as a final troubleshooting step.
Installation Instructions
- Locate the downloaded file and click to run. (In Chrome, this appears in the bottom left; in other browsers, check your Downloads folder).
- Follow the installer prompts. Click Next until you can select Close.
- If a "User Account Control" prompt appears, click Yes to allow the installation.
- Once installed, the program will be listed as Twack_32 in your applications.
Using the Tool
-
Open the Windows Start menu and type "twack". Select Twack_32 from the results.
- Run the program and select your device: Click File > Select Source.
-
If your device is not listed, verify the driver is installed. If it is installed but missing here, the device may not be TWAIN compliant.

-
Attempt to capture an image: Click File > Acquire.
If successful, the scanned image will appear in the main Twacker window.
