Section 1 - Accessing the Billing Module
- In the Sidekick, locate the patient.
-
Within the Sidekick, click Billing.
-
The Billing module is displayed.
Section 2 - Understanding the Running Balance for Multiple Transactions
Each transaction contained in the Billing module includes an Amount and Running Balance (note that claims and voided invoices do not include an Amount).
The following table includes a breakdown of how the previous Running Balance and Amount are used to calculate the current Running Balance:
| Section | Transaction Type and Number | Previous Balance | Amount | Current Balance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2A | Initial invoice (#257) | - | $110.00 | $110.00 |
| 2B | Patient payment (#258) | $110.00 | ($30.00) | $80.00 |
| 2C | Insurance payment (#259) | $80.00 | ($48.00) | $32.00 |
| 2D | Payment refund (#260) | $32.00 | $10.00 | $42.00 |
Section 2A - Adding the Initial Invoice
-
When the first Invoice is added to a patient's account, the Amount will exactly match the Running Balance.
Section 2B - Adding a Patient Payment
-
When a Patient payment is added, the negative amount is displayed in parentheses.
- Previous running balance ($110.00) + Patient payment (-$30.00) = $80.00
Section 2C - Adding an Insurance Payment
-
The current Running Balance is updated by adding the insurance payment (negative amount) to the previous balance.
Section 3 - Understanding the Running Balance with PPO Write-Off Estimates
The following breakdown show how PPO Write-off estimates affect the Running Balance on an invoice line.
Section 3A - Adding the Initial Invoice
-
When the first Invoice is added, the Amount matches the Running Balance.
Section 3B - Adding An Additional Invoice with a PPO Write-Off Estimate
-
The calculation subtracts the estimate from the balance:
- Previous balance ($90.00) - PPO Estimate ($15.00) + Invoice ($168.00) = $243.00
Section 4 - Understanding the Running Balance with PPO Write-Offs Applied as Adjustments
Section 4C - Running Balance After Adding PPO Adjustment
-
When applied as an adjustment, the estimate is removed from the invoice row and a new transaction is created.
Section 4D - Calculating the Running Balance for a PPO Write-Off Adjustment
-
The adjustment (negative amount) is added to the previous balance.
