Additional Information
OBS uses Sources to determine where it should look for what to record. There are two main Sources, or methods of capturing video from your computer that we will use. You can record what your entire monitor is displaying (Display Capture) or just a particular program (Game Capture). Adding the sources is done the same way for the most part, but we will cover both separately.
Game Capture
This allows you to record video of just one window, or program.
- Right click in the Sources box. (or click the + sign)
- Hover over Add and choose Game Capture.
- Give this Source a name under the "Create New" field. You will want to name this for the application you are recording.
- Click OK.
- In the Mode dropdown, choose "Capture Specific Window" Then under Window, choose your application you would like to record. (The application has to be open to record, it will not appear in the list if it is not.)
- Click OK.
- Press Start Recording on the lower right side of the screen to begin recording.
- Press Stop Recording when finished.
Screen Capture
This allows you to record video of your screen, or everything currently on your monitor.
- Right click in the Sources box. (or click the + sign)
- Hover over Add and choose Display Capture.
- Give this Source a name under the "Create New" field. You will want to name this for the application you are recording.
- Click OK.
- In the Display dropdown, select the monitor you would like to record.
- Click OK.
- Press Start Recording on the lower right side of the screen to begin recording.
- Press Stop Recording when finished.
