Description
This quick guide defines and explains what fee guides are and how they are utilized in Curve Hero.
About
A fee guide is what determines the cost of any procedure in Curve Hero. There are a few places in Curve Hero where a fee guide can be attached to determine the patient portion estimate, the insurance estimate, and which fee guide will be utilized on claims.
Note:
If the office has in-network or contracted insurance plans, the fee guide set up directly affects how the insurance, patient and insurance write-off estimates display. Click Setting Up Estimates to Display PPO Write-Offs to learn how this can be set up.

- Section 3 - Insurance fee guide
- Section 4 - Claim fee guide
Section 1 - Fee Guides in Administration
- In the Sidekick, click the More menu, then click Administration in the drop-down list.
- In the Administration menu, within the Fee guides drop-down list, the existing fee guides can be accessed and new fee guides can be added or imported.
- To learn how to add a new fee guide, refer to the quick guide, Adding a Fee Guide. To learn how to import a fee guide into Curve Hero, refer to the quick guide, Importing and Exporting a Fee Guide.
Section 2 - Updating the Patient's Default Fee Guide
- With the correct patient at the top of the Sidekick, click Profile.
- The Profile module opens. The Default Fee Guide is in the Other Information section. It can either be set to match the regular office fees or the patient's insurance fees.
- Click the currently set Default Fee Guide to bring up the fee guide options.
- If the patient Default Fee Guide is set to the regular office fees, the full office fees will show on the appointment, in the treatment plans, and on the invoice.
- If the patient Default Fee Guide is set to match the patient's insurance fee guide, no write off will show for the office or the patient, and no or few insurance adjustments will need to be made. This means the patient will not see the clinic's UCR or office fees on treatment plans or invoices.
- To set a different fee guide for the patient, select the applicable fee guide in the Default Fee Guide drop-down list.
Option 1 - Default Fee Guide Set to Regular Office Fees
Note: For instructions regarding how to update a patient's default fee guide, refer to the quick guide, Changing a Patient's Default Fee Guide.
Section 3 - Insurance fee guide
- The insurance fee guide is contained in the Insurance module. To open the insurance fee guide, begin by clicking the Insurance summary arrow in the Sidekick.
- Click the insurance plan name to open the patient's insurance policy.
- In the Edit Insurance Policy dialog box, within the Policy Information section, click Edit Plan.
- In the Edit Insurance Plan dialog box, within the Plan Information section, click the Fee Guide drop-down menu.
- In the Fee Guide drop-down list, click the applicable insurance fee guide.
- The insurance fee guide can determine the allowed rate for PPO plans if the provider is in-network, or contracted with the insurance plan. In order for this to apply to the insurance plan, ensure that the Claim filing type drop-down menu is set to Preferred Provider Organization (PPO).
Note: The fee guides included in the Fee Guide drop-down list are the same fee guides contained in the Fee guides drop-down list within Administration.
- In the Edit Insurance Plan dialog box, within the Plan Information section, the fee guide used on claims can be selected for the insurance plan. To do this, ensure that the Fee Guide to send on Claims drop-down menu is set to the correct fee guide.
- The claim fee guide determines what fees will show on any claims sent for the insurance plan.
